This paper offers the means of assessing the Asian Elephant （Elephas maximusLinnaeus）’s habitat.Firstly

based on the field sampling invetigation

we use multivariateregression to quantitatively analyse the Asian elephant’s habitat factors.Secondly

throughthe interpretation of the aerophotos and TM data

the theme information of elephant’shabitat was obtained and the database of geographic information system for habitat wasestablished. Thirdly

we used the SUN workstation ARC/INFO software to evaluate the habitat quality of elephant in Mengyang nature reserve of Xishuangbanna.Lastly

we put forward some measures and suggestions to improve the elephant’s habitat to ensure the existence and propagation of Asian elephant.
