Wu Bingfang. A Simplified Method of Accurate Geometric Correction for NOAA AVHRR 1B DaTa[J]. Journal of Remote Sensing, 1994, (4). DOI: 10.11834/jrs.1994039.
There are different methods for geometric correction of NOAA AVHRRdata
but these methods pay less attention to the accuracy
or are technical complex
almost unsuitable for most users. When combining AVHRR data with other highresolution satellite data
or with precise ancillary data
it is necessary to develop aaccurate geometric correction method
which should be easy to use for non- profes-sional users. After analyzing the pixel shape and size of AVHRR data along scan line andevaluating the quality of geographic data within NOAA AVHRR 1B data set
it isclear that the geographic data have a very high accuracy for identify the pixel sizeand shape. The proposed method has two steps. The first step is the correction of distortedpixel. The separate program performs the distortion correction
applying the geog-raphic data of AVHRR 1B data set to assign the value of each pixel of the desiredoutput geographical area with given pixel size
and doing logical judgment for un- assigned pixels. The second step is the conventional polynomial transformation. An application of this method is presented
in which AVHRR data are integra- ted over multi-temporal data and 1∶50
